1. What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medicine practice that involves inserting thin, sterile needles into specific points on the body to balance energy (Qi) and promote healing.
2. Does acupuncture hurt?
Most people feel little to no pain. Some points may create a mild tingling, pressure, or warmth, but discomfort is typically minimal and brief. I always explain where I will be needling and why and if needed talk my clients through relaxation techniques to help reduce any anxiety around being needled.
3. What conditions can acupuncture help with?
It’s commonly used for pain relief (back, neck, arthritis, etc.), headaches, anxiety, insomnia, digestive issues and fertility support, but can help with much more. It may also support overall wellness.
4. How many treatments will I need?
This varies depending on your condition. Acute issues may respond in 1–3 sessions, while chronic or complex conditions may require ongoing treatment.
5. Are there any side effects?
Minor bruising or soreness at the needle sites is possible but rare. Most people experience a sense of relaxation or mild fatigue after treatment.
1. What are the benefits of massage therapy?
Massage can relieve muscle tension, reduce stress, improve circulation, support recovery from injuries, and promote overall well-being.
2. What types of massage do you offer?
I offer Swedish & therapeutic massage, as well as acupressure (meridian) based massage, all tailored to your needs.
3. Do I need to undress completely?
Only to your comfort level. You'll be properly draped at all times, and I will only uncover the area being worked on.
4. How often should I get a massage?
This depends on your goals. For general wellness, monthly sessions are common. For specific issues, more frequent visits may be recommended initially.
5. Can massage help with chronic pain or injury?
Yes, massage can be very effective for chronic conditions or recovery from injuries. Therapists often use targeted techniques to address pain or mobility restrictions.
1. What is Reiki?
Reiki is a gentle, hands-on energy healing technique that originated in Japan. It aims to promote relaxation, reduce stress, and support the body’s natural healing processes by balancing energy flow.
2. What happens during a Reiki session?
You’ll lie fully clothed on a treatment table while the practitioner places their hands lightly on or just above specific areas of your body. You may feel warmth, tingling, or a sense of deep relaxation.
3. How does Reiki work?
Reiki channels universal life force energy to help clear energetic blockages and restore balance. While it's not a medical treatment, many clients report feeling calmer and more centered after sessions.
4. Is Reiki a religious practice?
No. Reiki is spiritual in nature but not religious. It doesn't require any belief system and can be practiced by people of all backgrounds.
5. How should I prepare for a session?
Wear comfortable clothing and try to arrive a few minutes early to relax. Avoid heavy meals or stimulants right before the session if possible.
1. What is cupping therapy?
Cupping is a traditional therapy in which suction cups are placed on the skin to increase blood flow, release muscle tension, and promote healing. It’s commonly used in Chinese medicine and other holistic healing systems.
2. How does cupping work?
Cups create a vacuum on the skin, lifting underlying tissues and stimulating blood flow. This helps to release tight muscles, reduce inflammation, and promote detoxification through lymphatic drainage.
3. What are the benefits of cupping?
Cupping may help with muscle pain and stiffness, anxiety, fatigue, migraines, inflammation, and even respiratory issues like colds or congestion.
4. Will cupping leave marks or bruises?
Yes, cupping often leaves circular marks that range from light pink to deep purple. These are not bruises but signs of stagnant blood or toxins being brought to the surface. They usually fade within a few days to a week.
5. Is cupping painful?
Most people find it relaxing, though you may feel tightness or pulling during the treatment. Any discomfort is usually brief and well-tolerated.
6. Who should avoid cupping?
Cupping may not be suitable for people with bleeding disorders, skin infections, or certain medical conditions. Always consult with your practitioner before beginning treatment.
1. What is Gua Sha?
Gua Sha is a traditional healing technique that involves scraping the skin with a smooth-edged tool to improve circulation, relieve tension, and promote healing.
2. How is Gua Sha performed?
A lubricant (such as coconut oil) is applied to the skin, and a special tool is gently scraped along the muscles or meridian lines in a specific direction. It can be done on the face or body.
3. What are the benefits of Gua Sha?
Gua Sha may reduce muscle pain, tension, headaches, and inflammation. Facial Gua Sha is also used to support lymphatic drainage, reduce puffiness, and improve skin tone.
4. Will Gua Sha leave marks?
Yes, it can cause temporary redness or petechiae (tiny red or purple spots), especially in areas of tension or stagnation. These marks usually fade in a few days and are not painful.
5. Does Gua Sha hurt?
It should not be painful. While some areas may feel tender if tension is present, the treatment is generally gentle and relaxing when performed correctly.
6. Is Gua Sha safe for everyone?
It’s generally safe, but may not be recommended for those with bleeding disorders, certain skin conditions, or if you're on blood-thinning medications. Always inform your practitioner about your health history.
